Hex S run VPN as client for home network?

Mon Apr 29, 2024 2:06 pm

Hi,
I'm looking into protecting my home network with ProtonVPN service I already pay for. The Deco XE75 I have does not seem to be able to run the VPN as a client well. My speeds drop from 400-500Mbs for clients to 10-20. I have read that this is due to heavy CPU usage that the Deco is not capable of.

Question:
I have an unused Hex S RB760iGS. When properly setup, is this unit capable of providing 50Mps speeds to multiple clients simultaneously? My network has about 30 clients like the usual family mobile devices, speakers, cameras, TV, etc.

If the answer is Yes, it can deliver reasonable speeds for a network like mine, why does the Deco not? Is it a hardware or software issue?

Thanks!

hEX S will work fine as a Wireguard VPN client.
No idea about the other device, but that seems like a home wireless router from another brand. Didn't know they could even work as VPN clients.

It's a TPLink mesh system. I wanted an easy way to extend coverage on my property. It works very well for that and speeds have been great, but the UI is miserable. It does support OpenVPN and others, but obviously sucks at it.

Normis is correct the hexS should be fine. Expect wireguard connectivity at least in the 100-200 range.

Thank you both for the answers!
Any idea why the Deco doesnt do well? Its a new system that I paid some $ for.
I tried Wireguard and OpenVPN protocols and had same slow results.
